🦋 IC Information
Character Name: Haru Okumura
Age: 18
Canon: Persona 5
Canon Point: Christmas Eve. Specifically, after the Grail wipes the Phantom Thieves from public cognition but before they rally again to fight back.
Character History: via the wiki
Canon Abilities:
-Persona: Haru is a member of the Phantom Thieves, which comes with a cool outfit and the ability to summon an aspect of her soul to blast monsters with magic by ripping a mask off her face. Being from near the end of the original game, Astarte is topped out in terms of skills she can learn (Psiodyne, Mapsiodyne, Triple Down, One-Shot Kill, Amrita Shower, Heat Riser, Cripple (boosts Gun skills), Evade Nuke).
-Gardening: The game describes Haru as having ‘an incredible green thumb,’ which if anything is a massive understatement. She grows edible, nourishing vegetables in a week or less, in planters on the school rooftop, in the middle of Tokyo, IN NOVEMBER (the absolute earliest you can unlock the gardening mechanic is Halloween).
Inventory: winter casual clothes, phone, wallet; with her Phantom Thief outfit, axe (Lethe Axe, chance of inflicting Forget) and grenade launcher (Pandemonium SP, chance of inflicting Confuse)
🦋 Personality
Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your character’s thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.
- If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
- If you'd like pixies to change one event in your character's life, what would it be and why?
- What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
- Your character gets to return home, but when they do they learn that they've been gone for hundreds of years. How do they react?
Given the nature of the Metaverse, there are two people that Haru not only would, but has followed into another realm. Joker (Ren, Akira, whichever) is the most obvious, as the leader of the Phantom Thieves. He was one of the first people to treat her with genuine kindness and no ulterior motives; she values his insight into the various problems she has in her daily life; she trusts him to guide her and the others through any crisis they might encounter (yes, even in light of everything going to hell at her canon point). But even before she met Joker, she followed Morgana into the Metaverse with nary a clue of what was happening - only that there was a stray cat near her father’s office building that appeared to be in distress. It’s entirely possible that Morgana is the first true friend Haru ever had; she stuck by him while he was fighting with the other Phantom Thieves, and was instrumental in helping mend the rift between them. If either of them told her that the solution to a problem lay in entering another world, she would follow them without hesitation.
Her paternal grandfather’s death. Haru takes after her grandfather in several respects, both of them looking to help others first and foremost, often at their personal expense. Her father, on the other hand, responded to a childhood plagued by debt collectors and financial problems by putting his personal gain above all other concerns - including his own daughter’s happiness. Haru tends to think that her grandfather’s death stripped away what was left of her father’s empathy, setting him on the path to become the heartless CEO we meet in the game. (I don’t call him heartless lightly; Okumura Foods’ business practices are horrendous enough to be blown up into a big deal in Japan, a country not known for its healthy work culture, and he knows full well that he has engaged Haru to a truly vile creep and does not care.) If she’d had her grandfather in her life a little longer, maybe she would’ve been better prepared for the company landing in her lap, or maybe she could’ve stood up to her father more effectively, or… maybe she just would have felt less alone. Maybe she would have had an ally when her father started ignoring her. (Maybe she could’ve had her dad back.)
Her kindness, hands down. Kindness is Haru’s weapon of choice, despite her father’s best efforts to make her as ruthless as he was. She worries about the well-being of Okumura Foods’ employees, the vast majority of whom she has never met, and absolutely will not stand for the company continuing her father’s abusive business practices; she pushes her own grief about her father’s death aside to make sure the rest of the Phantom Thieves are coping with the shock of being framed for it; after being wiped from public cognition, she likewise worries about the well-being of the apathetic populace that doesn’t believe in the Phantom Thieves anymore; she even feels a degree of sympathy for Akechi, even if she won’t forgive him for killing her father. Her post-college career ambition is to open a cozy little cafe in the same vein as the one her grandfather used to run - a place where people can find a little respite from their troubles. She wants to bring a little light into people’s lives, however she can.
Given that the last thing she remembers is literally being disappeared from public cognition because no one believes the Phantom Thieves exist anymore, she wouldn’t be all that surprised by the lost time, but beyond that, it depends: What state is the world she’s returned to in, and is she alone? If Haru returns to a world that’s been under the yoke of the Holy Grail for actual centuries, then she will, sooner or later, get to work doing whatever she can to break its hold over humanity. She’d need some time to grieve her losses, but she’s very good at putting her needs aside in order to help others; if she has friends with her, she’ll look to them for help, and if not, she’ll find whatever allies might still be available in a world that hasn’t known free will in ages. If she’s returned to a world where her friends were able to rally and defeat the Holy Grail for good… she’d get to the ‘grieving her losses’ stage much faster (especially if she’s the only one returned to her world), and then set about trying to figure out what niche she can build for herself in her new ‘here and now.’
