AU Information

AU Name: Haru Okumura
AU Age: 18
Physical Differences: Longer hair starting out, since we’re in Vaguely Medieval Land here… but she might cut it all off. Her eyes are about a third flecked with gold by this point.
AU History: Haru grew up in Gold Court country, the only daughter of a family of middling prominence. Her father aspired to a higher station than that, though, seeking to make the family farm (dairy/slaughter animals) a full-on enterprise, and thought he could get it without playing nice with the vampires. For a while, the overlords ignored him, thinking he’d learn on his own this was a bad idea… but his greed wasn’t to be underestimated. After he stepped on toes one too many times, a vampire took matters into her own hands, and informed him that for his crimes, his only child would be taken to the castle.

This is probably the end of Haru’s family - her mother’s still alive, but past childbearing age, and Haru remembers multiple miscarriages during her childhood - but the longer she’s in schooling the less she minds that fact. Her father was in the midst of arranging a marriage she wanted no part of anyway, and she’s learning how to stand outside his shadow - and that he never really loved or respected her in the first place. She hasn’t ruled out taking revenge of her own, once she graduates, though she probably won’t kill him. Keeping him alive would be so much more useful, not to mention entertaining.
AU Personality: Haru’s empathy (easily one of her strongest canon traits) is still there, but the setting has… kinda warped it. Her Maker, her Court, and her friends have all her loyalty; select favorite humans might also earn her favor, but the deeper in she gets, the harder she’s going to find it to see humans as Real People. Her sadistic tendencies may also grow more pronounced as she progresses, since there’s less reason not to apply a little torment to get what she wants. Kindness is still a weapon in her arsenal, but it’s not necessarily her first choice.

Haru has a better understanding of politics, thanks to growing up in the thick of it and constantly being sent to put out her father’s fires (as opposed to being kept out of the business loop entirely until she inherited it). She knows the rules forward and backward, and thus has a pretty good idea of where they can bend a little, and where it’s best to stick to the letter of the law.

She’s also fomenting a more open, less complex resentment of her father for putting her in this position in the first place. In canon, she very much still loves her father despite the mess he makes of her life, is searching for something redeeming in his personality and actions, and misses him fiercely when he’s gone. Here, however, she’s very much aware that she’s here because of his poor choices, and that he doesn’t actually give a damn what happens to her or her mother as long as he gets what he wants.

Novice Information

Starting Season: second
Maker: NPC - the Lady Astarte, known to select close associates as Lucy but mostly addressed as ‘Milady’
Anticipated Court: Gold! Haru’s canon power set isn’t precisely psychic, but she deserves the chance to be a psychic powerhouse (not to mention, actually getting training for governance and managing other people is a delightful bit of irony). The ‘humans aren’t Real People anyway’ mindset will also be beneficial here.
